Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.

Officers say they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.

The liquid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they added.

Police then found multiple other smeared cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Police report preliminary tests indicate the substance was likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; authorities are currently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the incident," they added.

Local authorities announced they were trying "to solve the case" and have asked to the residents for tips.

An important political figure stated the vandalism made him without words and required to be solved promptly.

"This event affects the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman focusing on individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
